Prove Your Ability to Apply What You Know with ASTQB Proficiency Distinction™

Have you ever worked with someone with plenty of paper certifications but no ability to apply what they “know” to a practical situation? I have. I’m happy to say that the ASTQB is doing something about it.

The practicality of training and learning directly affects your ability to apply a new testing technique in a real world, non-trivial situation. Let’s face it, there’s no point in learning about decision tables if you can’t use them.

If you’re searching for courses that will give you this practical experience and will leave you with the capability to really use and apply what you have learned, then look for the ASTQB Proficiency Distinction™ (PD) rating for the course. If you take a PD course, you know you will get a real world scenario to apply throughout the course. Applying state transition testing to turning a light bulb on and off is not very helpful in real life – but working through an exercise of the state changes in an e-commerce system allows you to see how the technique really works. That’s our goal: real world examples and real world exercises to support your learning.

It’s not just the improved knowledge that you will get from a PD course. If you pass the associated exam, you will also receive a Proficiency Distinction badge for your certification. Check the ASTQB web site to find the training providers who offer PD courses. If you have already had your training courses, but in the long ago past, ask your training provider about boot camp courses. These are one-day courses that concentrate on providing real-world application of the concepts covered in the full courses. Successful completion of a boot camp course, along with a completed exam (even if in the past) will allow you to obtain the Proficiency Distinction badge.

There’s no reason to delay. Apply your knowledge, impress your co-workers (and manager) and get your Proficiency Distinction. For more information, see xxxxx.
